7KBW publication – Carver on Charterparties, Second Edition

11th Jan 2021

7KBW congratulate the authors of Carver on Charterparties upon the publication of the Second Edition of this work under the editorship of Professor Howard Bennett.

The authors are Professor Howard Bennett, Julia Dias QC, Stephen Hofmeyr QC, Simon Kerr, Alexander MacDonald, Peter MacDonald Eggers QC, Richard Sarll and Professor Stephen Girvin.

The first edition, whose name is intended as a tribute to Thomas Carver and his seminal “Treatise on the Law of Carriage of Goods by Sea”, was published in 2017.  As explained in the preface, the book had been “built from the ground up drawing and articulating legal principles from the cases and establishing a structure for the exposition, analysis and development of the law of charterparties”.  In addition to the authors listed above, the first edition was co-authored by Robert Bright QC and Siobán Healey QC.

In a review of the first edition, Professor Francis Rose remarked that “with its comprehensive and accessible nature, the arrival of Carver on Charterparties will undoubtedly find its own place and be welcomed at the heart of the literature on the law of carriage of goods by sea.”  Since publication, the work has been repeatedly cited by Courts in reported decisions.

It is hoped that the second edition of this important work will consolidate its standing as  a major treatise on the law of charterparties.
