James has published the book Contract in Commercial Law (2016), which he co-edited with Justice James Edelman, who is a Justice of Australia’s ultimate appellate court. Contributors to this book include the Hon Justice Susan Kiefel AC, Chief Justice of Australia, and the Rt Hon the Lord Hope of Craighead KT, who is a former Justice and Deputy President of the United Kingdom Supreme Court. James has recently published in the Law Quarterly Review an article entitled: “The End of an Era? Illegality in Private Law in the Supreme Court”. This article addresses the United Kingdom’s jurisprudence regarding the defence of illegality as it applies in the commercial law setting, and looks specifically at its recent decision in Patel v Mirza [2016] UKSC 42; [2016] 3 WLR 399.
