7KBW is extremely sad to report the recent death on 17 February 2024 of Adrian Hamilton KC, who was Head of Chambers for decades and the leading insurance silk of his generation at the English Bar.  The current Head of Chambers, Gavin Kealey KC, announced his death to the existing and former members and staff of 7KBW in the following terms:

“I am extremely sad to report that Adrian Hamilton has died.  Adrian was the most wonderful, generous and loyal person.  He was Head of Chambers for over two decades during which he transformed us into the powerhouse that we now remain.  He was the leading insurance silk of his generation (and several generations before and after him).  He was so kind to all the juniors; he was a mine of information and legal knowledge which, if ever one asked him, he so generously distributed; his door was always open for any questions and advice; he was never too busy for anyone who needed help.  He was a wonderful gossip, and often indiscreet, in the best traditions of 7KBW.  He occupied the sloping room above the old clerks’ room in no. 7 and, irrespective of who occupies it now or since he left, it is always associated by those who were with him in Chambers as AH’s room.  We are a lesser place for his departure.”

A Service of Thanksgiving will be held in Lincoln’s Inn Chapel in June 2024.
