Richard Sarll on marine war risks insurance in a time of Gulf conflict

The London Shipping Law Centre (LSLC), in association with 7 King’s Bench Walk (7KBW), is welcoming members and other shipping and commercial professionals to a hybrid seminar on Tuesday 22 September 2026. Richard Sarll will join a panel discussion moderated by The Hon Mr Justice Butcher on marine war risks insurance in a time of Gulf conflict.

This is the fourth installment in LSLC’s series of talks examining the crisis in the Persian Gulf. Attention now turns to marine war risks insurance – a form of cover that is crucial to international trade but features only rarely in reported cases.

Against the background of ongoing conflict in the Gulf, the expert panel will consider the insurance products available and explore several significant and potentially controversial questions concerning coverage. The seminar will begin with an update on the current situation in the Gulf from Graham Thomas of Herminius, advisers to the Joint War Committee.
