Bernie is Joint Senior Clerk to Chambers with over 45 years of experience as a Barrister’s clerk. He began his career as a clerk in 1973 at One Essex Court (OEC); he then moved to Queen Elizabeth Building (QEB – the Chambers now known as The 36 Group (Commercial)) before joining 7 King’s Bench Walk in December 1989. He qualified as a member of the Institute of Barrister’s Clerks in 1986.
Bernie engages very well with Chambers clients and is well respected by solicitors and clients for his efforts to ensure that their requirements are met and that they receive the highest quality of service they have come to expect from 7KBW. He is particularly good at identifying the specific requirements of a case to match the right Counsel with the action and work to be completed as identified by Instructing Solicitors. As well as playing an active role in the marketing of Chambers and business development for Chambers, he has an excellent knowledge of the work undertaken by the members of Chambers and he is heavily involved in diary management and fee negotiation where he adopts a commercial, open and transparent approach. He is responsible for the smooth running of the clerking team and for ensuring a professional service is always provided to Chambers’ clients.
Outside Chambers, Bernie is enthusiastic about sports (watching and competing) and music (particularly attending concerts and events at the 02 Arena), both of which have become a regular theme in Chambers’ marketing events.
